Christina Dodge, Manager of Ticket Operations
How long have you worked for the Jays organization?
This is the 12th season I’ve been with the team.
What drew you to want to work here?
I grew up in a baseball family, we all played the game at some point. The Jays were always on the tv or the radio. My first job was with Ticketmaster and we sold our tickets out of the stadium, it was pretty cool joining the organization and getting to work in the same building.
What is it like being in this environment and this kind of team? What keeps you coming back?
It’s all about the fans, they bring the team and ballpark to life. They bring the energy, and being in a game day role, you get to see that first hand. It was tough not being able to be together during the pandemic, but there were a lot of fan interactions we’d have over the phone about how excited people were about getting to watch baseball in-person again and that kept us going and motivated us.
Favourite/most fulfilling part of your job?
Being a part of this team, we’ve accomplished a lot together. I’ve been working with some of them for decades, we’ve become a family. And we extend that connection to the fans. We check in with them even though box office isn’t used as much as it was before because we’re used to seeing them so often.
Favourite Jays moment?
It’s not one singular moment but just anything and everything that can come up during the day-to-day, like helping accommodate parents with autistic children or watching fans come to their first game. If I did have to pick one moment though, last July’s opener back here in the city after two years away was extraordinary.
Fun fact about your job that people wouldn’t know?
Most people don’t understand how intricate the system can be and how tickets and promotions get set up and delivered to fans. This job has given me a lot of appreciation for others in similar lines of work.
What was your most recent super hectic day on the job? What happened and how did you manage it?
There hasn’t really been one (laughs), but they’re all unpredictable in terms of what fans want. It’s just about getting ready for the day and being prepared for those busier periods as best as you can. No day is the same but they are always approached with the same mentality.
