Chris Binns, Field Operations Technician

How long have you worked for the Jays organization?

13 years

What drew you to want to work here?

I was always a big fan of Toronto sports and the Jays were always a good team, baseball seemed like a good sport to be a part of. I played baseball as a kid and it seemed like fun environment.

What is it like being in this environment and this kind of team? What keeps you coming back?

It’s fast paced, very fun. I’m very proud to work for the only Canadian team in Major League Baseball. I look at my team as a family, and they practically are. I see them more than my own family (laughs). I’m proud to work for this team, everyone’s friendly and always ready to help each other out.

Favourite/most fulfilling part of your job?

Knowing that we’re the only major league team in Canada, being able to call one of the major franchises in the sport home is really fulfilling.

Favourite/memorable Jays moment?

Being able to travel during the pandemic and work in Florida and Buffalo, being able to understand the different ins and outs and analytics of the different parks and adapt on the fly.

How do you feel about the changes the Rogers Centre has made to the field/diamond over the last couple of years?

They’ve added more responsibility, which is a good thing. I love the work I do and it help makes Tom’s (Farrell - Director of Field Operations) job easier. I’m excited for the future upgrades coming to the park.

If you had a wish list of improvements to make to the park, what would they be?

I think it’s perfect the way it is. I understand updates need to be made as time goes on, but I like the originality of an older park. Maybe I would add more banners (laughs). It’s a really classic ballpark like Fenway or Wrigley. I like our little blue stadium.
